Playing their 1st game of the year, our Lakewood Rangers Boys Basketball Team traveled to Parma (1-2) for their first ever game in the Great Lakes Conference. After 32 minutes of back and forth action, the Rangers emerged as the winners 67-62, led by senior Peter Patsouras (28 points, 16 Rebounds and 2 blocked shots), with numerous players making key contributions. Junior Point Guard Riley Ulintz handled the ball well, scored 9 and dished out 7 assists, while junior Tico Jones played strong defense, scored 2 points and rebounded well. Critical contributions were made by a spate of players seeing their first varsity action. Junior M.J. Grayer scored 11 points on put backs, free throws, and two 3 pointers, junior Hakeem Quran chipped in 6, while seniors Jaquan Neal and Ahmed Muhammed had 5 each. The Ranger team defense was spirited but had a few break downs, which made winning against a very good Parma team all the more difficult.
Pastouras created his own shots with slashing drives to the hoop, hit a 3 pointer, and drained 11 free throws. With all that, his best play of the night was an above the rim chasedown block on a Parma breakaway that prevented a larger Ranger deficit just before half. (35-34). With all the uncertainty and stress surrounding this season, it’s a testament to both teams that they were able to play such a high quality basketball game tonight. Facing a tough team on the road that had played two games, the Rangers performance was all the more impressive. Congratulations to the entire squad on a great team win.
